Prerequisite: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
This 50-hour EKG Technician program will prepare you to become an EKG technician, which involves monitoring and recording electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. This course includes important background information on the anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiography, and stress testing.
Once you’ve earned our certificate of completion, this certificate qualifies you to take national exams, which are separate from our program and can be taken at additional costs. These include the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) exam and the Healthcareer Association (NHA) EKG Technician Certification (CET) exam.
This program is presented in partnership with a third-party provider and is not taught by California State University, Long Beach faculty. The course is not offered for academic credit and is not degree-eligible.
This course is offered in two separate delivery formats. One is the hybrid online format, which features asynchronous online curriculum, live online Zoom lectures with an instructor in real time, and five in-person hands-on lab sessions that are held on campus.
The second delivery method is our self-paced online program that does not meet live or in person. The program is completely online, and has a program coordinator to answer any questions you may have throughout the self-paced time frame.

The instructors for these programs will be industry professionals with working knowledge and experience in the local field. Most instructors have at least 7 years of practical work, often times entering the classroom after decades in the field. Along with their hands-on experience, instructors bring to the classroom formal teaching and/or field training experience.
The EKG Technician instructor is experienced with working and training in the field of EKG and is prepared to instruct on all aspects of the ASPT-EKG exam.
