Withdrawal Policy
Effective Fall 2009, all undergraduate students may withdraw from a maximum of 18 units over the course of their entire CSULB undergraduate career (including special sessions, enrollment by extension, and re-enrolling after separation from the University for any reason). Exceptions include courses taken prior to Fall 2009, courses dropped during the first two weeks of semester, courses in which the student received a grade of WE (Withdrawal for Extenuating Circumstances), and courses taken at other institutions. Financial Assistance
Since our Non-Credit and Open University programs are self-support and not government or state funded, FAFSA will not be able to apply to these programs.
The Student Services Center is pleased to provide information on financial assistance, and the companies that provide it, to those individuals registering for our programs. These companies provide education financing services for career training, part-time education and distance learning. To learn more, please email cpace-info@csulb.edu.

There are a variety of lenders that offer non-federal, or private, education loans. Approval of the loan is typically based on your credit rating and debt-to-income ratio and may require a co-signer. The interest rates are variable, meaning they can change on a monthly basis, and are determined by the information in your credit report.
When looking for a Private Loan, here are some questions you should ask:
- Is a co-signer required?
- Are there any enrollment requirements (Full-Time, Half-time, less-than half-time, Satisfactory Academic Progress)?
- Interest Rate:
- What is the current rate?
- Is it fixed or variable?
- If variable, how often will it be adjusted?
- Is there an interest rate cap?
- Are there reduced interest rates for on-time payments?
- When does interest capitalize and how often?
- Will I need to pay the interest while enrolled in school?
- Will having a co-signer lower the interest rate?
- Fees:
- Is there an application fee?
- Is there a disbursement fee?
- Are there any repayment fees?
- Repayment:
- When does repayment begin?
- What is the length of the repayment term?
- What will the minimum payment be?
- Is there a pre-payment penalty?
- Are there options available to postpone payment in the event of financial hardship?
- Disbursement of Funds:
- How long does it take for the funds to disburse to the school?
- Will the loan funds be sent electronically or by check?
- If sent as a check, will it be payable to the student, or the school?
New Truth in Lending Requirements:
New provisions in the Truth in Lending Act, implemented February 14, 2010, have resulted in a number of changes in the process for applying for and receiving private education loans. Lenders who provide these loans must comply with the following requirements:
- Lenders must provide three separate loan disclosures to borrowers--one at the point of application, one when the loan is approved, and one before the loan is disbursed.
- A waiting period of three business days is required between the time the borrower receives the final loan disclosure and the time that the loan is disbursed.
- Students must also sign a self-certification form and submit it to the lender before the loan can be disbursed.
Your lender should provide you with all of the information you need to know about these requirements, but if you have questions, feel free to contact our office.
Refunds
Refund amounts are based on the date an official withdrawal form is submitted to the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) office.
The refund process may take four to six weeks for processing, starting from the time that a request is submitted to our Student Services Center. A refund check will be issued for registration payments made by check. Credit card accounts will be credited for registration payments made by credit card.
A delay in submitting required forms may result in a reduced refund.
- Students with appropriate signatures must officially drop their course(s) and submit a refund request to cpace-info@csulb.edu.
- Refunds are calculated based on the date the request is received at CPaCE.
- Please be aware that any outstanding financial obligation to the university (i.e., library fines) may be withheld from your refund.
- If a course is canceled for any reason, students may transfer their fees to other courses or submit a request for a full refund to CPaCE-info@csulb.edu.
Special Sessions Refunds
Refund regulations for the California State University System are prescribed by the California Code of Regulations, Title V, Section 41802.
Important: It is YOUR responsibility to drop classes by the deadlines, regardless of the reason, to avoid charges or be eligible for a full or pro-rated refund. Students who do not plan to attend should drop all classes before the first day of instruction. After instruction begins, students who drop all their classes will owe pro-rated fees based on the date of withdrawal.
If class is dropped prior to the day of the first class meeting, the refund will be minus a $10.00 processing fee. The first day is the day listed on the schedule of classes.
The refund schedule will begin on the first day, which is the date listed on the class schedule. If class starts on a weekend, then the refund schedule begins that same day. The refund schedule is based on calendar days, including weekends and holidays.
Formula for Credit Refunds
Refund schedule applies to all self-support credit courses except courses taken through Open University, Summer Sessions, or Winter Sessions.
- 100% refund of the course fees paid prior to the start of class minus a $10 processing fee
- 65% refund of the course fees paid if student has taken up to 25% of the course
- $0 refunded if student has taken over 25% of the course
- Any classes that are 24 hours or less do not qualify for a refund once the class begins
- Refund requests will be accepted in person, by phone, or email cpace-info@csulb.edu.
- Refunds are calculated based on the date the request is received by CPaCE.
- Students enrolled in classes which are cancelled will automatically receive a full refund or may transfer their fees to other classes.
- Textbooks are non-refundable

Transcripts
If you are interested in ordering a transcript for courses taken through Degree Programs, Open University, Winter, May, or Summer Session, you can order your academic transcripts through MyCSULB.
If you are a former student and no longer have access to MyCSULB, you can visit the Enrollment Services website to order transcripts via Parchment.

Noncredit transcripts are available for our professional programs through the CPaCE Student Services Center.
Students may request one of the following:
- Cumulative Transcript which documents course/program completion (no fee)
- Official CEU Transcript which documents Continuing Education Units (CEUs), if applicable to the program completed ($40 fee)
CEUs can be provided upon request for select programs as a permanent record of one's attendance, if requested by the last class meeting. One CEU is defined as ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction. Current CSULB students can generate free official enrollment verification certificates online by logging on through Single Sign-On (SSO) and selecting the "National Student Clearinghouse" button on the student dashboard. For more detailed information click here.
For non-credit courses students can request a verification of enrollment letter by completing the form below. A Student Services Center representative will notify students in 2-3 business days once the request(s) are complete.

No, our professional development (non-credit) courses are specifically designed for working adults, with convenient scheduling and registration (no admission to CSULB required).
Yes, Open University provides an opportunity for those people who are not currently admitted to and/or registered at CSULB to enroll in most courses offered by the regular university. CSULB's Open University program allows enrollment in regular university credit classes on a 'space available' basis, subject to the approval of the instructor and the department chair concerned. University credit is not available for professional development (non-credit) courses. However, the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPaCE) awards Continuing Education Units (CEU) for most professional development programs. CEUs are a permanent record of your attendance, and can enhance your resume and provide another opportunity to showcase your commitment to your professional development.
CEUs are provided upon request of the student. An informal record is available at no cost. An official CEU transcript is available for a fee of $40.00 through the CPaCE Student Services Center.
They are all scheduled to start at different dates and times, depending on the length of the program.
Yes, we try to accommodate the busy schedules of working adults, so most of our programs are offered in the evenings and on weekends.
On most of our professional development program descriptions, we have a “Who Should Attend” section, along with “You Will Learn.” Take a look at the program you're interested in to see if those descriptions match with your profile and educational goals. Before you enroll, make sure the program you wish to take is indeed covered by your company’s tuition reimbursement program. (At Boeing, check with your “Learning Together Program” coordinator.) Some programs may not be covered.
