Quick Career Change and Rapid Responses for Newly Certified EMT

As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for on-demand ambulance services provider Ambulnz, Erika Quinteros gets exposed to a lot of different scenarios. As part of a Critical Care Transport team, Quinteros works with an EMT partner and a registered nurse on four to five calls per shift, going wherever they’re needed to help save lives.

Quinteros is new to the industry, and was hired straight out of CSULB’s EMT training program, which prepares graduates to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam.

“After our class final, the instructor told me that I was one of the students who scored the highest on the class final,” Quinteros explained. “I know that was due to my preparation and their amazing teaching skills.”

“I chose the EMT program because the timing was perfect for me,” Quinteros continued. “I needed to find employment as soon as possible, and the schedule worked great for my daughter and me. I am a single mom, so the schedule made it super easy for my family, and I truly appreciate that.”

In quick succession, Quinteros finished the EMT program, took the NREMT exam, interviewed with Ambulnz, and almost immediately started working.

“With the experience I gained from the EMT program, I was able to pass the exam on my first try and get state-certified the following week," said Quinteros. "That allowed me the opportunity to find employment very quickly!”
