Curriculum and Methods in Teaching English (EDSS 450G) is a 3-unit online course designed for individuals who already possess a California Teaching Credential and are looking to add an authorization in English.
In addition to learning a new skill set that can help teachers advance their career, passing this course fulfills part of the requirements of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). 

The course objectives, curriculum materials, instructional strategies, and assessments are specific to teaching English to a diverse range of students. Reflective practice is based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession and state curriculum frameworks. This course results in a letter grade only (A-F). 

Please review the directions on the Single Subject Credential Program (SSCP), including the eligibility requirements and expectations for Adding an Additional Credential, and follow the steps accordingly. Be sure to complete the Request to Enroll in a Methods Course to Add a Credential via DocuSign, indicating the name and email address for the Subject Area Coordinator, Kasey Spencer at Kasey.Spencer@csulb.edu, in English in the area you wish to add. You will also need to upload a copy of your valid existing Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential. 

This program is only available to students who currently hold a CA credential. Individuals who already have a teaching credential and need to take this CTC-required course to add an English authorization to their certification. Individuals interested in taking this course MUST show subject matter proficiency prior to enrolling and receive permission from the SSCP Subject-Area Coordinator via this link.
